EV Battery Installation Services

EV Charger & Home Battery Installation

Thinking about a home EV charger, or want to make more of your solar with a battery?

Power On Electrical & Air Conditioning QLD can talk you through your options and install it safely - done right, and built to work with the rest of your home's electrical system.

EV Charger Installation

Charging an EV from a standard household power point works, but it's slow - often 15+ hours for a full charge - and running a car charger continuously off a general power point isn't what it was designed for.

A proper home EV charger (sometimes called a "wallbox" or "EVSE") runs on its own dedicated circuit, charges significantly faster, and is built for the sustained load of charging a car overnight. Because it draws a serious, continuous current for hours at a time, it has to be installed on a correctly sized circuit with the right safety protection - this isn't a job for a general power point, and it's not legal to have anyone other than a licensed electrician carry out the wiring.

We assess your switchboard's capacity first (see below), then install the charger on a dedicated circuit sized correctly for the unit, with the right safety switch protection. If you're also thinking about solar or a battery, we'll factor that into the setup so the systems work together rather than being installed in isolation.

Solar Battery

Home Battery Storage

Most homes with solar send unused power back to the grid during the day for a fairly modest feed-in credit, then buy power back from the grid at full price once the sun goes down - which is exactly the gap a battery is designed to close.

A battery stores the solar power your home generates but doesn't use straight away, so you can draw on it in the evening instead of paying for grid electricity. How much a battery actually saves you depends on your household's usage pattern (how much power you use, and when), the size of your solar system, and the size of the battery itself - bigger isn't automatically better if it doesn't match how your home actually uses power.

We'll look at your existing solar system and your typical usage before recommending anything, rather than suggesting the biggest battery on the market.

Switchboard & Capacity Checks

An EV charger or a battery system adds real, sustained load to your home's electrical supply - and your existing switchboard and main supply capacity were sized for the house as it was, not for a car charging overnight on top of everything else.

Before recommending or installing anything, we check what your switchboard can actually handle: whether it has spare capacity, whether your main supply from the street is adequate, and whether other upgrades are needed first.

Skipping this step is how homes end up with an overloaded board, nuisance trips, or worse, a genuine fire risk. It's also worth knowing that some electricity retailers offer specific tariffs for EV charging (typically cheaper rates at certain times of day) - while that's a retailer question rather than an electrical one, it's worth asking about when you're planning your setup, since it can change how and when you'd want the charger to run.

EV Charger Advice

Advice Before You Buy

EV chargers and batteries are a genuine investment, and the right choice depends entirely on your specific home and habits - not on whatever's being pushed hardest at the time.

For a charger, that means thinking about how much daily driving you actually do and how much charging speed you genuinely need, rather than paying for the fastest unit available. For a battery, it means being realistic about your household's usage pattern and existing solar output, rather than assuming bigger automatically means better value.

We're happy to talk through your options honestly before you spend anything - including telling you if your current setup doesn't yet justify the cost, or if a smaller, cheaper system would suit you just as well as the premium option.
